Dear Friends and Family,                                                                                                                         December  2008

This year will go down in our family history not for a “big” happening such as a new job, new house, or career
move, (although the Volkswagen of 17 years, Helga, did get sold – hey, it had great gas mileage), but for the
multitudes of tiny stories that the miracle of life unfolds for new parents and living out the experiences a growing
family enjoys during their first-born’s first year.

Of course those milestones really are exciting, like the first day Allison sat in the high chair and took her first
spoonful of baby food - that was about 20 photos!  Or her first crawl, first stand, first hug….. amazing things for the
new parents!!!  Though the milestones are exciting, the most satisfying are the everyday moments we’ll always
remember, like cuddling up with Allison in her PJ’s just before bed, brushing our teeth together or scooping her
into our arms when she wakes up from her nap.

So each day there is something small and new that fills our home with happiness, wonder and the feeling of being
very fortunate.  Allison is certainly thriving in her journey to becoming a toddler, and through it, we can truly say that
this year was one of our best.

Career wise, we enjoy what we are doing and are thankful that we have a lot of work during these trying times.
Linda continues to successfully manage the company where she works.  Christoph’s architecture business had
another good year with several projects currently in design or under construction.

A few years ago a friend of ours wrote about those that are concerned with ‘what is’ versus those concerned with
‘what could be’.  Eric also pondered how the birth of a new baby embodies the hope of what could be.  So it was
rather coincidental to experience our Allison’s first full year of life, and at the same time, to hear so much
discussion (especially in the media) about what is versus the hope of what could be.

It has been an amazing year in so many ways; one we could not have imagined a few years ago.  We feel fortunate
to have so many good things in our life and all the hope of the coming year.

Wishing you happy holidays with peace and happiness for the New Year!
